Mental health awareness has always been important, but even more so with the onset of the pandemic. With so many people struggling daily, our SIMOS teams in Pittston, PA wanted to do something to help for Mental Health Awareness month and to let our associates know there are options for support.
They teamed up with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Luzerne and Wyoming Counties to see how they could make more of an impact in their local communities. NAMI’s mission is to provide advocacy, education, support and public awareness, so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can live better lives.
The team spent the day with Magen Washilewski, Executive Director of NAMI of our local branch, and learned about all the support they offer. One of the biggest obstacles in facing mental health is fighting misconceptions and misunderstandings. NAMI of Luzerne-Wyoming Counties tries to help remove the myths about mental health through events, online resources, and support groups.
NAMI provided the team with pamphlets, wallet cards, and bracelets to hand out to all our associates at our locations in Pittston.
In July, NAMI had reached out to our team and asked if we would like to attend a fundraising benefit. They jumped at the chance to help one of their community partners and continue to build that relationship. The office donated a basket to be raffled off and they spent the evening learning about all the work NAMI does to help those in need.
