Supply chain management was always a goal for Tim Monaghan. But it was in the Army where he developed the leadership skills that got him there.
“I was lucky and had very good leaders in the Army and also had some really neat experiences that are applicable in managing people,” he said. “Overall, the Army taught me a lot about my personal limits and managing people under stressful situations.”
And while those situations don’t compare to being ambushed in Iraq, he is able to bring a sense of calm leadership to his role as an operations manager for SIMOS Solutions.
“Everyday at work I feel lucky to be in the position I am in,” he said. I was taught leadership in college and also in the Army. Each lesson learn from my previous experiences can be applied to Simos. We have decisions that need to be made every day, which I use the Military Decision Making Process to help me pick the best course of action. One thing that I learned from Army to civilian world is I have to tone it down a bit.
Monaghan was commissioned in 2005 and served in Ft. Stewart Ga. He was deployed to Iraq from 2006-2008. He then went to the Captains Career Course and finally to Ft. Sill, Okla. He left active duty in 2010 and joined the Army Reserves. He credits the leadership in SIMOS and across TrueBlue for being supportive to veterans, both through thank-you notes around Veterans Day and by making it easy to mix service and work in the eight years he’s been with SIMOS.
“When I had to do my annual training with the Army Reserves, SIMOS took very good care of me by making me comfortable with leaving for three weeks,” Monaghan said. “It’s not easy taking off three weeks at a time when you are in a leadership position, but I felt like SIMOS wanted me to do my annual training.”
